In my food addiction recovery program I don’t do everything I know to do that will be good for me. I still do things that are not really the best in healthy eating. Are you surprised? I hope not. One of the beliefs or rules I live by is “progress, not perfection” and I sure am good at not being perfect. Therefore, here is something I know it would be better if I did but I don’t do. I include it for you in case you might want to give it a go or just to inform you of what is available. Now I know it is good to be a vegan but I am not.
Neal Barnard, M.D. is the founder and president of an organization called Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine (PCRM) that has some well-known names attached to it. Dr. Barnard has completed scientific research with human beings that are published in scientific journals on diet and nutrition. He is a vegan and supports folks in eating a vegan diet, which is a diet without any animal products at all. Now I am a semi-vegan I say with a smile and have integrated vegan principles and thinking into my food addiction recovery program. I am what is known as a “lacto-ovo” vegetarian. That means I will eat dairy products and eggs. As a not perfect vegetarian, I also will eat fish or chicken upon occasion but not as a usual habit. Usually this meat eating happens when the circumstances call for it. Maybe when a host or hostess serves meat to me and/or the vegetarian options are not good options for me (say maybe a high calorie items such as pasta with cream sauce versus a small piece of broiled chicken or fish). Well, if you would like to look into this system of eating for your food addiction recovery program then you can get on the PCRM 21-Day KickStart Program that begins 1/1/2010. If you want to see a video about the program, you can click here. I am enrolled myself. Maybe I can make some progress and learn something!
